If there is a god of tailwind, it seems he’s got his benevolent eyes on me again. Especially today, with such an instable weather and wind that went up to 15 km/h. How do I know the speed: by stopping. I already noticed that the temperature dropped down during the night (well, night, let’s say the time when it seems like the sunset, but then it doesn’t really set and decide to come up again) to 10-12 degrees, but I was expecting it to go up in the morning. And it seemed so when I started cycling: even the wind seemed calmer. At the first break I realised that actually the wind was carrying me along, that’s the reason why I couldn’t feel it!
The route of road 98 that starts along the Tana river and then turns towards west is probably one on the best ones for its diversity: here you can admire rivers, creeks, mountain lakes and fjords. Of course to cross from one scenery to another you are always climbing up to discover what the other side of the mountain is hiding. But that’s definitely worth it. Especially if you need a peaceful holiday: few cars and only the nature around you. And also the nature is continuously changing: small birches bordering the tree line, on the other side a wonderful tundra – with still lots of blueberries anyway – and the higher rocky mountains on the background. Not reachable by bicycle, but maybe for a future hiking trip?
Crossing from one fjord to the other it started to be late, and also tonight I found a very nice hideout just above the sea: although here you can virtually camp everywhere, it’s so far in the north that you don’t necessarily find some trees and fresh water at the same time in the same place. And when you cycle it’s always a question mark: this might be a nice place to stay overnight, but clock is not too much, so I could cycle a bit more. And then you don’t when you will find the next suitable place. One thing is sure: you never turn back, especially on this grounds. There is always something nice behind the corner or on the other side of the hill. And if there isn’t, you can always try with the next one!
