Day 42-45 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Touring on the Sea

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Ok, I won't count it as a proper leg of the tour as a matter of km, but since the bike was with me and after all I have been also in duty for steering the boat, I'd say that it should be counted at least as a part of the tour. A big sailing [...]

Day 41 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Lyökki – Raisio

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Watch the full roadmap of the tour It has been a nice long weekend without cycling since a long time. I have spent a wonderful time at Niilo's cottage watching good films and having a lot of sauna, swim and fun with good friends. Which is even better when you are cycling just on your [...]

Day 40 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Yläne – Lyökki

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Watch the full roadmap of the tour Fortunately the thunderstorm that was forecast for today didn’t touch the area where I was. Some other travellers haven’t been that lucky, as the storm has completely destroyed one camping place in Uurainen, just a few hundred km north from where I was, injuring three people; the pictures [...]

Day 39 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Tammela – Yläne

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Watch the full roadmap of the tour The village of Tammela is in such a beautiful area that it was hard for me to find a proper place where to put my tent: every time I ended up in the backyard of some house. But when I finally found the right forest, it took longer [...]

Day 38 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Hämeenlinna – Tammela

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Watch the roadmap of the tour During the one-day break in Hämeenlinna I went to visit the second castle of this journey, the first one being Olavinlinna. Hämeen linna, the Häme castle, was built in the 13th century and used not only as a fortress for defending the area, but also as the place where [...]

Day 37 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Lahti – Hämeenlinna

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

I spent the last night at Lahti Mukkula camping, where there was a gathering of "motorized families", which means Harley Davidson accompanied by their owners and their owners' children. That was something I've never seen (and heard) before. Especially heard, that is, it was definitely hard to fall sleep. And headache in the morning.

Day 36 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Kouvola – Lahti

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Watch the roadmap of the tour What a thunderstorm last night! Trees falling down, black outs, millions and millions of euros of damages. Well, not where I was yesterday night. Fortunately, because as a matter of fact in the forest I was, the thunderstorm broke out, with all the lightnings and the rest, but fortunately [...]

Day 35 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Lappeenranta – Kouvola

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Watch the roadmap of the tour The hot weather of the last days wasn't enough, there was really need of breaking the all time record of temperature in Finland: today in Joensuu it has been 37,2 degrees centigrade, and I guess in Lappeenranta we haven't been far from that. Fortunately museums and supermarkets have air [...]

Day 34 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Imatra – Lappeenranta

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Lauloi päivät pääksytysten, yhytysten yöt saneli: päätyi päivä kuulemahan, kuu kulta tähyämähän; aallot seisottui selällä, lainehet lahen perällä; puuttui virrat vierimästä, Rutjan koski kuohumasta, vuotamasta Vuoksen koski, joki Juortanin pysähtyi. Sings one day, and then a second, Sings a third from dawn till evening, Sings from evening till the morning; Listen all the stars of [...]

Day 33 – Tour de Finlande 2010: Parikkala – Imatra

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Watch the roadmap of the tour Today the temperature has overcome my personal threshold. Don't know whether it was above 30 or not, but after the strong thunderstorm of the last night, today there were no clouds and no wind. And a huge shining sun just over my head. I was really boiling. I think [...]
