Watch the roadmap of the tour
Via Karelia in this area follows always small roads, just a few kilometres from the Russian borders. I tried to get as close as possible, but not having permission to enter the border zone (which is usually less than 4 km from the actual border line), I just had to stop once the yellow signs on the trees told me to. I also had the chance to swim in a lake which is half Finnish and half Russian. Exactly here. You could also see the warning yellow posts in the water.
Niskapietiläntie road, which is nowadays a museotie, that is, a museum road, as it has been used in the last three centuries as an important route in Southeast Finland. The road brought me finally to Imatra, where I felt completely destroyed. I lay in a park for an hour and also fell asleep so tired I was. That's the reason I decided to stay tonight at a camping site, mostly to have a looong shower before visiting Imatra and its streams tomorrow.
