60th Government of the Italian Republic

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007 · italiano

As we all know, Italian governments don’t last long. Here is then our modest proposal for the new Italian government, a government in 3D: durable, determined and, most of all, strong (well, the third D got lost in translation).

According to the typical Italian chauvinist tradition, there won’t be too much room for women. As a matter of fact, there will be only one, but look at which seat she’s got!

Update (23.2.2007 11:10): Talks are still on going, possible modifications (and addition of ministries) are expected in the following hours

Update (27.2.2007 22:17):  Despite useful and fruitful consultations, the President of the Italian Republic has decided not to sack the present government. And that’s a pity, if he had read what kind of government we had built up, maybe he would have chosen otherwise. Therefore our government will go underground. We like darkness anyway.

Florentine schiacciata

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007 · suomeksi · italiano

Firenzeläinen schiacciataHere is a recipe for a typical Tuscan carnival cake. I’m sorry I can provide you only the version in Finnish. Well, a good way to improve your knowledge of such a beautiful language. Why? Because one day it will be a world language, as Richard Lewis has explained in this article.

Now also in English!!!

"Schiacciata alla fiorentina"

Ingredients:

  • 12 tablespoons of flour
  • 9 level tablespoons of sugar
  • 8 tablespoons of cold milk
  • 6 tablespoons of oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • grated rind of 2 big oranges (and some of their juice if you like)

Heat the oven at 180 degrees. Pour flour, sugar and the orange grated rind in a bowl. Add then the eggs, oil and milk. Mix as far as the dough gets a uniform colour, and then add the baking powder. Mix again for a bit.

Pour the dough in a rectangular baking (30 x 20 cm) tin covered by waxed paper.

Put the tin in a hot oven for 20 minutes, or as long as the surface color have turned light-brown. The cake is ready. Let it chill out and sprinkle with icing sugar.

Eat it all! Better if served with a glass (or two) of Vin Santo.

Original recipe by granma Bianca.

Car key(s)

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

keysIt just happened that the car door got locked and my only key remained stuck inside. Don't ask how it happened, I just feel angrily stupid :(

On a side note, my blog turned 3 yesterday. Fortunately crazy thoughts are still flowing.

Update (21.2.2007): Thanks to Janne's subborness, we managed to open the car, and without breaking anything!
